2001 chrysler town and country review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Comfort and practicality with power and luxury. introductionchrysler's town & country is all-new for 2001. As a result, the town & country is roomy and comfortable. The interior is versatile with seats that fold and remove. Powerful v6 engines deliver crisp performance. The ride is smooth and quiet. And it's wrapped in an attractive design.  in terms of refinement, power, handling, and braking, the town & country once again ranks among the best minivans on the market. lineuptown & country is available in three trim levels: lx, lxi and limited. Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are available for each trim level. All are built on a long wheelbase, making these among the biggest minivans on the market.  lx and lxi models come with a 3. 3-liter overhead-valve v6 that produces 180 horsepower. The limited gets a more powerful 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 that generates 215 horsepower. Mid-year models will offer a brand-new 3. 5-liter single overhead-cam engine that delivers 230 horsepower, all the makings for one mighty minivan.  prices range from $24,430 for the lx fwd to $37,175 for the loaded leather limited awd. Chrysler's town & country limited is a luxury vehicle that happens to be a minivan.  in between these two levels are lxi and well-optioned lx models to fill varying needs and price ranges. It's big, measuring 200. 5 inches long and 78. 6 inches wide. And it stretches across a longer wheelbase (119. 3 inches) than the chrysler voyager (113. 3).  power sliding doors are standard on both sides of lxi and limited models. Press a button on the remote transmitter and the door slides open; press the button again and it slides closed and seals. From the second-row seat, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button; it can also be opened manually. A child safety lock switch hidden away on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent opening the sliding door from inside. The power doors work particularly well when managing children and armloads of stuff. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door. In profile, its raked windshield, rising roofline and beltline, and fast d-pillar with canted backlight (rear window) give it an aerodynamic appearance. Crisp creases have replaced the smooth forms of the 1990s. Pronounced wheel arches complement sharp character lines that flank the integrated grille. Rear styling cues give the town & country a weighty appearance that looks wider than taller, for visual stability. Huge taillamps use clear red lenses and jewel-like reflectors. All positions were roomy and comfortable; and it seats seven. Cupholders are available at each seat and the rearmost passengers each get their own storage console, though the plastic lid is flimsy. Seat belt anchors are height-adjustable in the front and middle rows.  a low floor makes getting in and out through the side doors easy. Loading groceries through here is no problem, though. Plastic grocery bags can be looped onto special hooks on the backs of the rear seats. There's a fair amount of space behind the third row. An optional cargo organizer on the floor behind the rear seat opens to provide a bin for six grocery bags; and it is adjustable.  we found the second-row bucket seats and third-row split bench easy to remove. Each seat is heavy enough that care should be exercised when lifting it off the garage floor. The seats can also be folded down to form a continuous load floor for 4x8-foot sheets of plywood and other large items.  there are many features available, in addition to the power doors, designed for those of us who always seem to be dealing with armloads of stuff: a headlamp-off time delay lights the way when coming home in the dark with a load of groceries. Auxiliary outlets, two up front and one amidships, provide convenient power. Three dome lights illuminate the cabin well. An available overhead console houses power switches for the rear hatch and sliding doors along with compass and outside temperature readouts. Power window switches include the rear quarter windows. Dark tinting on the side windows provides privacy.  a center console houses a cellular phone holder, power outlet, storage tray, light, tissue holder and a map holder. The console is removable and can be placed between either the front or middle seats.  small buttons make the audio system a challenge to learn and use while driving and the column shifter blocks the driver's view of the volume knob and seek button; optional steering wheel audio controls might prove beneficial. A separate knob controls the rear fan. Handsome and straightforward analog instruments use black on white graphics that reverse at night. A digital odometer doubles as the trip odometer when a button is pressed. Turn signal indicators and warning lights are in a thin hooded panel above the instruments. driving impressionchrysler has done a great job with this new town & country. It rides smooth and feels very stable at highway speeds. It handles competently and seems surprisingly nimble for its size. Power-assisted steering is light, making it easy to maneuver and park in crowded lots, and the front air dam isn't so low to the ground that it scrapes on curbs. It delivered lively acceleration; we felt like we had plenty of motor to jackrabbit away from standstills or pull off that big pass. The engine is smooth and quiet when cruising and makes itself be known under full throttle.  wind noise is minimal. Chrysler engineers worked hard to ensure carrying on a conversation inside the town & country is easy and pleasant. And they were successful. Heavier duty brake rotors and new brake calipers improve braking performance, durability, and enhance pedal feel. Having abs as standard equipment is good as it helps the driver maintain steering control in an emergency or panic stop. An available traction control system reduces front wheelspin on slippery surfaces. Better is the all-wheel-drive system, which redirects power to the tires with the best grip; all-wheel drive is a smart option for drivers who live in the snowbelt.  lots of glass makes for good visibility all around, though the thick a-pillars hamper front three-quarter vision. Rearward visibility is greatly enhanced with big side mirrors, though third-row headrests block the rear-view mirror somewhat.  an automatic load-leveling system is available that automatically trims the town & country to a level ride height. summarythe people who wrote the book on minivans have produced another winner. Daimlerchrysler has sold 8 million minivans in 16 years and continues to dominate the market; chrysler and dodge own about 40 percent of the minivan market in the u. S.  this new town & country shows why. It's roomy, comfortable, practical, powerful and nimble. Order the limited model and add the word luxurious to that list. model. 2006 chrysler town and country review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Luxury and innovated seating. introductionthe chrysler town & country is a luxurious minivan with an innovative seating design that adds greatly to its versatility. The town & country combines the practical features of the dodge caravan with a higher level of equipment and style. A choice of models is available, ranging from a short-wheelbase voyager replacement to the leather-upholstered limited, but all are powered by smooth, responsive v6 engines and all ride smoothly and quietly.  the flagship town & country limited is in many ways a luxury vehicle, and it is in many ways a very intelligent choice of vehicle. The limited model comes loaded with leather upholstery, gps navigation, dual power sliding doors, and a power rear liftgate. Dvd entertainment, hands-free communication and other convenience features are available by checking options boxes.  standard in all but the base model is a system of second- and third-row seats called stow'n go that fold flush with the floor, perfectly flat, opening up more than 160 cubic feet of cargo space. Convenience and safety features abound in the town & country cabin. Storage bins and cargo nets assist with carrying groceries. The town & country is certainly a more sensible choice than a sport-utility for moving people around. Like all modern minivans, the town & country is built on a long wheelbase (119. 3 inches, to be exact). Upholstery is cloth. The clever stow 'n go seats are not included, however, and the second-row seat is a bench. Think of it as the long-wheelbase voyager. Its raked windshield, rising roofline and beltline, and fast d-pillars framing canted rear windows help it slip through the air. Pronounced wheel arches complement sharp character lines that flank the integrated grille. The rear end is designed to make town & country look wider and not as tall as it really is. Huge taillamps feature clear red lenses and jewel-like reflectors. Press the appropriate button on the remote transmitter twice and the door slides open; press it twice again and it slides closed and seals. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door. Once inside, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button conveniently located for second-row passengers. That may seem far too fussy for those in a hurry to get out (and almost all passengers are almost always in a hurry to get out), so the door can be opened manually just like any sliding minivan door. A safety lock switch hidden on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent a child from opening the sliding door from inside.  the base and lx come with manually operated sliding doors, which are still easy to operate, smoothly gliding open and closed with the pull of a nicely designed lever. The outside door handles are comfortable, easy to operate and well designed; they impart a feeling of quality in appearance and operation. All door handles should be this good on all vehicles, but they are not.  the available power rear liftgate makes loading groceries and other cargo easier. Press a button on the remote control and the liftgate opens or closes automatically. It provides seating for up to seven people. And each seat, including the third-row seats, is roomy and comfortable, something that cannot be said about any sport-utility vehicle. The material is soft and appears durable. Attractive sycamore wood and satin-silver trim warm the cabin.  chrysler's stow 'n go is the most convenient seating system on the market. The second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving a perfectly flat platform for cargo. Folding and unfolding the seats is a quick three-step process. Pull one strap to drop the seatback, then pull two other straps to tuck it into the floor, completely out of sight. Very few seats fold perfectly flat and no one else (except dodge) has a second row that does this. It's a flexible system as well. The third row is split, and either or both of the second-row captain's chairs can be stowed. Once back there, she said the seating was very comfortable. She then put on her headphones and that was the last we heard from her.  the low floor makes getting in and out through the side doors easy. Caesar the 160-pound mastiff r. 2008 chrysler town and country review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned for 2008. introductionchrysler has redesigned the town & country minivan for 2008. With these improvements, chrysler bills the town & country as the ultimate family friendly vehicle, and we agree.  in addition to the new seating arrangement, the 2008 chrysler town & country gets a new engine choice, a 4. 0-liter v6 that is more competitive with the v6 offerings from other manufacturers. The 4. 0 moves the t&c nicely, while the carryover 3. 8-liter v6 is adequate for around-town duty. The base engine is a 3. 3-liter v6. The town & country is a big vehicle, however, and it is not nimble. It is prone to body lean in turns and the ride can feel floaty at highway speeds. The honda odyssey and nissan quest are more car-like and sportier.  the town & country's entertainment and seating options, however, are the best in the class, matched only by the dodge grand caravan. The available stow 'n go seating tucks the second-row seats nicely into the floor, and when those seats are up, the floor bins offer storage space. The second row turns to face the third row with a table in between. It will help keep the kids entertained with games of checkers, a place to draw, or any number of other possibilities. The dual screens allow different viewing options for kids that can't agree on what to watch. And for the adults up front, chrysler's new mygig hard drive radio stores up to 1600 songs.  overall, the 2008 town & country does what a minivan should. It is a great vehicle for families that need to haul kids and cargo on a regular basis. And the seating and entertainment options will prevent a lot of the fights that inevitably accompany road trips. The limited upgrades to a 251-hp 4. 0-liter v6 with the six-speed automatic. Also offered are chrysler's mygig multimedia infotainment system 1,300), which adds a rearview camera, sirius satellite radio, chrysler's uconnect hands-free cell phone link and a navigation system with real time traffic and voice activation to the mygig multimedia entertainment system. Three rear dvd entertainment systems are offered. The lx model is available with entertainment group 1 2,120), which has a single rear dvd screen, and also comes with sirius satellite radio, a rearview camera, and the mygig multimedia entertainment system with 20-gigabyte hard drive. Entertainment group 3 2,020) for the limited model has two rear video screens with two dvd players, plus sirius backseat tv. A trailer tow group 795) includes heavy-duty engine cooling, trailer wiring harness, and load-leveling rear air suspension. Stand-alone options include two integrated child seats 225) for the second row, uconnect cell phone link 275), sunroof 895), a power-folding third-row seat 595), and sirius backseat tv 495). Several of the higher line standard features are also available for the lower line models.  safety equipment includes dual-stage front airbags, head-protecting curtain side airbags, tire-pressure monitor, abs with brake assist, traction control, and electronic stability control. Optional safety features include rear park assist and a rearview camera. walkaroundwith its 2008 redesign, the town & country drops its short wheelbase body style, opting for three long-wheelbase models. The vehicle's architecture is basically the same, but stretched a bit. Compared to the outgoing long wheelbase model, the 2008 town & country is 1. 9 inches longer in wheelbase, two inches longer overall, and at least 100 pounds heavier model for model.  even with those larger dimensions, the 2008 town & country's size is comparable to several competitors. The nissan quest, chevrolet uplander, kia sedona, honda odyssey, and toyota sienna are all within two inches, plus or minus, in overall length. The roof is wider at the top, also contributing to the boxier look.  the snout features a large grille heavily influenced by that of the chrysler sebring and pacifica. The body sides have a clean, simple design, as the last model's side strakes have been eliminated. The rear liftgate is available with power operation, which is handy, but the rear glass doesn't open separately, which isn't. Chrome accents on the front and rear fascias, door handles, belt molding, and mirrors lend an upscale appearance. interiorthe town & country's competitive advantage can be found on the inside. While ambiance and materials quality are not tops in the class, thoughtful features are. The chrysler town & country is brimming with them.  first the mundane. Hard plastic dominates the dash and doors. The only padded surfaces are found on the captain's chairs' fold-down armrests, and they are an unimpressive looking rubberized material. The gauges are easy to spot and the various controls are clearly marked.  the radio and/or mygig system is set high on the center of the dash for easy access. With either system, the controls are easy to use, but those on the right side are a bit of a reach for the driver. The cd/dvd changer is also set low, making it a possible distraction to use while driving. The gearshift is mounted between the radio and the instrument panel. It's an odd position, but it works and there is an electronic gear readout in the instrument cluster.  the mygig radio is available as the mygig multimedia infotainment system, which includes a navigation system with voice activation, or as the mygig entertainment system, which does not have a navigation system. Both systems have a 20-gigabyte hard drive to hold music, pictures, and, with the infotainment system, navigation map information. Chrysler says the infotainment system version can hold 1600 songs; it can hold almost twice as many without the navigation system.  front-seat room and comfort are typical for a minivan. The front captain's chairs afford an upright driving position with an suv-like view of the road. There is plenty of head room, and leg room will only be lacking for the tallest drivers. A tilt steering wheel and available adjustable pedals should help most drivers tailor a comfortable seating position.  the clever features start with the storage solutions. Chrysler provides two glove boxes and some cubbies in the center stack for small items storage. A total of 13 cupholders are found throughout the van, so. 2003 chrysler voyager review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The voyager delivers all the minivan essentials at prices that are hard to beat.  the voyager is comfortable and easy to drive, with excellent visibility. The seats are easily removable, so it can be quickly set up to haul a load of lumber. It comes standard with air conditioning, seating for seven, and am/fm stereo cassette.  the 3. 3-liter v6 comes with the voyager lx with the popular equipment package 23,640), which adds a tachometer, rear-window defogger, upgraded sound insulation, and more convenience items, including power windows and rear vents, cruise control, and tilt steering.  both modes feature new matisse cloth upholstery for 2003, along with floor mats, front and rear.  all voyagers are equipped with multi-stage dual front airbags that inflate at varying rates depending on the severity of an impact; this limits the potential for airbag-related injuries. Both models offer optional front-passenger side-impact airbags 390) and built-in toddler safety seats (prices vary with different option packages).  power-adjustable pedals 185), promised last year, are now scheduled for late-2003 release. They will allow the brake and gas pedal to move back or forward 2 3/4 inches to tailor the driving position. Other popular options include a power sliding passenger-side door, second-row bucket seats and wireless headphones for the rear seats (these play cassette, cd or radio broadcasts independent of what's playing over the external speakers.)  many options are packaged in groups, so check details at a dealership or on the internet at www. The standard wheel covers are attractive, and difficult to discern from alloy wheels at a distance of more than a few feet.  both models feature sliding rear doors on both sides, and they open with minimal effort. The rear gate lifts just as easily, and features standard lamps that flood light on the pavement below.  voyager received its last engineering overhaul in 2001, when the body shell was strengthened and tightened, and noise, vibration and harshness were significantly reduced. Nearly every interior dimension increased at least slightly, and the wheels were moved further toward the corners of the vehicle. That increased space inside, and improved balance and stability when the voyager is on a voyage.  . interiorthe voyager driver sits in front of a simple gauge cluster with a big speedometer in the center, fuel and water temperature gauges on either side, and warning lights lurking behind. Large, dark graphics on a white background make the instruments exceptionally easy to read. Radio and climate control buttons are concentrated in a center pod between the front seats. The switches feel reasonably sturdy and can be reached with minimal distraction from the task of driving. Large dash vents move lots of air.  the finish inside this minivan is not bad at all. The door panels are unadorned hard plastic, perfect for easy clean-up when smudged with mud or chocolate. The vinyl headrests look substandard, and the material around the backs and sides of the seats is only a small step up. Yet the seating surfaces are soft and plush. All panels and trim match nicely, and the cabin is lined throughout with decent grade of carpet.  the value equipment voyager has only two adjustments on the front seats: fore-and-aft and recline. And its steering column is fixed. Nonetheless, even this most basic voyager allows an excellent driving position for a wide range of body types, and the seats themselves are very good. They're wide enough to accommodate large folk, and cushy enough to be comfortable without feeling too soft.  voyager has a shorter wheelbase than many minivans, but the third bench in back still seats average-size adults in reasonable comfort. All things being equal, we prefer it. No, the middle bench won't keep squabbling siblings separated. On the other hand, it allows easier access to the third seat and more cargo options without removal.  speaking of removal, voyager's seats come out easily, latching and unlatching from the floor mounts with a couple of levers. It's easier if a friend or spouse helps heft them out, but a reasonably robust individual can manage in a pinch. Once the seats are on the ground they roll easily on their wheels.  such conveniences are a critical component of a minivan's appeal, and when it comes to conveniences the voyager's value equation gets a little tricky. The crank windows on the value equipment model are no problem at all. The biggest downside is the inability to roll down a passenger window while driving.  the side mirrors are another story. They're big enough for a good range of vision, and they fold inward to fit tight spaces or prevent damage at the bank machine. Yet they must be adjusted manually, and that can be a cumbersome process, particularly when a driver is alone. (power locks, windows, and heated mirrors can be ordered on the value equipment model for $755.) there is, on the other hand, a standard rear wiper.  there are no pockets or bins on voyager's doors or seatbacks, just a cargo net between the front seats and an open space in the center portion of the dashboard. The glove box is small, but that's balanced by a locking drawer under the front passenger seat. There are decent cup holders at every seating position; two power points in the dash (one switched with ignition) and a third near the hatch; map lights in front, a dome light for both the second and third seats, and those handy floodlights in the rear hatch.  in overall cargo capacity, the voyager doesn't give up much to long-wheelbase vans such as the town & country. With the seats removed, the voyager will handle most jobs the typical household demands, be it hauling sheets of building material or a 35-inch tv still in the carton, all fully protected from the elements. It's when all se. driving impressionthe chrysler voyager provides plenty of civilized, all-purpose family-mobile at an attractive price. We drove a base model, kids in tow, across lower michigan and back. On the plus side, we managed an honest 24 mpg on the interstate without even trying.  yet in a 3900-pound minivan, 150 horsepower is adequate, and not an ounce more. Off the line, voyager is one of the more sedate performers we've encountered in some time. The short wheelbase (relative to some minivans) is actually an advantage. Voyager's 37. 6-foot turning circle is quite manageable, allowing it to negotiate tight parking lots as adeptly as a mid-size sedan. Ride quality is good, but there's no feeling of disconnection from the pavement. The steering is light, but never sloppy. In short, the voyager driver feels firmly in control in all circumstances. At 75 or 80 mph, even with a crosswind, this minivan is stable and firmly grounded.  voyager stops with less authority than some minivans, but we have no gripe about braking distances. 2005 chrysler town and country review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New seating system best in class in convenience. introductionthis is a great time to be shopping for a new minivan. Ford, toyota and nissan launched all-new models for the 2004 model year and gm and honda are introducing all-new models for 2005. To counter this, chrysler has added more than a dozen new features to its town & country models, including an innovative new seating setup. And the price of entry has been dropped with the addition of two value-priced models.  chrysler's new second- and third-row seats fold perfectly flat, flush with the floor, revealing more than 160 cubic feet of cargo space. That's substantially more than what's available in any sport-utility vehicle, including the behemoth chevy suburban. The town & country's seats are quickly and easily folded flat without having to remove the headrests. To accommodate the new seating system, chrysler's engineers redesigned the town & country's underbody and designed a new fuel tank, exhaust system, parking brake cables, and rear climate control lines, and modified the rear suspension.  when the seats are in place, they provide comfortable perches for up to seven passengers. Storage bins and cargo nets assist with carrying groceries. The luxurious limited model comes with leather upholstery, upscale appointments, and dual power sliding doors and a power rear liftgate. Gps navigation, dvd entertainment, hands-free communication and other features are available for increased convenience. Two v6 engines are available: a 3. 3-liter v6 comes on base and lx models and produces 180 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. It comes equipped with air conditioning, power windows, tilt steering column, remote keyless entry, am/fm/cassette, and dual sliding doors. Standard upholstery is cloth. The new stow 'n go seats are not included, however, and the second row is a bench seat. Anti-lock brakes are optional; rear drum brakes are standard.  the lx 24,770) is a base model built on the same long wheelbase used by the rest of the models. Subtle styling changes freshen the looks for 2005. New dual headlamps and a new front fascia includes a better integrated license plate frame and new circular fog lamps. New cladding with chromed inserts highlights the side view. And a new rear fascia includes chromed inserts for the rear park-assist system.  the chrysler town & country looks aerodynamic in profile, with its raked windshield, rising roofline and beltline, and fast d-pillars framing canted rear windows. Pronounced wheel arches complement sharp character lines that flank the integrated grille. Rear-end styling tends to make town & country look wider and not as tall as it really is. Huge taillamps feature clear red lenses and jewel-like reflectors. All but the base model are built on a long wheelbase.  power sliding doors on both sides add convenience when moving passengers. Press the button on the remote transmitter twice and the door slides open; press it twice again and it slides closed and seals. From the second-row seat, the power sliding door can be opened and closed by pressing a button; it can also be opened manually. A safety lock switch hidden on the trailing edge of the door can be engaged to prevent a child from opening the sliding door from inside. The power sliding doors can be fussy when passengers are in a hurry to get out, however, and they usually are. Pulling on the outside lever opens the power door manually, with just slightly more effort than opening a regular manual door.  some models come with manually operated sliding doors, which are easy to operate, smoothly sliding open and closed with the pull of a nicely designed lever. The outside door handles are comfortable, easy to operate and well designed; they impart a feeling of quality in appearance and operation. All door handles should be this good, but they aren't.  a power rear liftgate is available that adds convenience when picking up groceries or supplies. Press a button on the remote control and the liftgate opens or closes automatically. It provides seating for up to seven people, and all positions, including the third row, are roomy and comfortable. That's something that can't be said for any sport-utility vehicle. Cup holders are available at each seat, and the rearmost passengers each get their own storage console, though the plastic lid is flimsy. The material is soft and appears to be durable. Attractive sycamore wood and satin-silver trim warmed the cabin.  chrysler's new stow 'n go seating system is the best on the market. The second and third rows of seats fold flat into the floor leaving a perfectly flat platform for cargo. Folding and unfolding the seats is a quick three-step process. Pull one strap to drop the seatback, then pull two other straps to tuck it into the floor. This leaves a perfectly flat platform. Very few seats fold perfectly flat and no one else (except dodge) has a second row that does this. The system is also flexible. The third row is split and either or both of the second-row captain's chairs can be stowed. Once back there, she said the seating was very comfortable. She then put on her headphones and that was the last we heard from her.  the low floor makes getting in and out through the side doors easy. Caesar the 160-pound mastiff requires a ramp to get into an suv, but he stepped easily and without hesitation through the rear and side doors of the town & country without such assistance. The low load height also makes loading cargo easier, and the town & country can carry more stuff and bigger items than any suv. There's a fair amount of cargo space behind the third row. When the seats are in place for passengers, there are wells behind the third-row seats that are perfect for groceries. A pair of cargo nets can be hooked onto hook.
